Department of Mechanical Engineering, Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology (YCET) conducted an industrial visit of 8thsemester students, toBaglihar Hydroelectric Power Station, Chanderkote,District Ramban on Friday 27th May 2022. During the visit, the students were briefed by Er.Mitten Rainaabout the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Plant. This Project is built over Chenab River in the Ramban District of Jammu & Kashmir, India. It is the first power project executed by Jammu & Kashmir power development corporation (JKPDC). It was conceived in 1992 & approved in 1996, with construction begin in 1999. It was started in 2008 & the project consist of two stage of 450MW each in which first stage was completed in 2008-09& second stage was completed in 2015-16. This Dam used Francis type of Turbine each Turbine produces 150MW of power & in each stage of 450MW three turbines are working & each turbine uses Gross Hydraulic head of 130m (427 ft). This is a gravity type of Dam based on Chenab River having total capacity of 900MW. This Dam consist of 143m Height, 370m length, elevation at crust 843m, Dam volume 1800,000m3, total capacity of Reservoir 395,950,300m3& spillway (Chute type) capacity 16,500m3/s.
The industrial visit was an amazing experience, provided the right exposure and proved to be a definite value addition in their professional knowledge. Industrial visit to an organization of repute is must for practical insight and understanding. The management of JGEI congratulated the department for such initiative and urged that such visit should be a continuous practice.
